Department Responsibilities

This section of the website is devoted to emergency management news and guidance. During an emergency, we will also broadcast updates over the County’s website home page, the County YouTube channel, social media, and all other media outlets.

Department Responsibilities

The agency is responsible for coordinating and operating a county-wide multi-hazard disaster preparedness program. This includes:

  • All Hazards Planning-Natural and Technological
  • Hazard Mitigation
  • Preparedness, Response, and Recovery from Disasters
  • Coordination of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), which is tasked with emergency planning to prepare and respond to chemical emergencies
  • Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operation during activation, training, drills, and exercises
  • Provide information to the general public on disaster preparedness.

Receive emergency notifications

In the event of a disaster or major disruptive event, the County will provide information to citizens via several media outlets and online resources. The County will provide information to the public via normal media outlets such as TV and radio, but also via the internet and social media.

Emergency preparedness kit

Once you’ve compiled the items for your emergency supply kit, learn how best to store them and where to keep them so they are easily accessible during a disaster situation.  The following website provides excellent information on different emergency preparedness kits and plans.

Family disaster plan

Having a plan can help families stay connected, organized, and safe during a disaster. The American Red Cross suggests families use this family disaster plan to stay informed, stay safe, and stay together.
